Our core objective at Growthcap is to make a positive impact on people and our planet, thus helping to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

We are committed to empowering women in business, as supporting female entrepreneurs plays a vital role in helping to reach many of the SDGs including Gender Equality (SDG5) and Reduced Inequalities (SDG10).

Part of our central strategy for female empowerment in business is Gender Lens Investing where we promote gender equality and encourage women to gain financial independence, especially in fragile states.

The gender gap is still a global obstacle (and more so since the pandemic) so we are dedicated to tackling this challenge. We run projects that both support women entrepreneurs as well as girls’ health and education programmes.

Women are also adversely affected by climate change globally, because they are more likely to be living in poverty than men. This is for a variety of reasons, but includes exposure to natural disasters, lack of access to education, female-related health issues and a low rate of agricultural land ownership.

The pandemic has further exacerbated gender inequalities so we recognise that the best way to reach SDG5 and tackle climate change is to promote financial inclusion. The availability of a wide range of financial services and products creates a positive impact and enables us to reach other SDGs, like Zero Hunger (SDG2), Good Health and Well-being (SDG3), Quality Education (SDG4), and Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG8). Economic self-reliance strengthens a woman’s status in their family as well as society, and allows access to health and education.

In this sector, our target is the Africa region. We specifically support women entrepreneurs in building capacity and developing business startups. We address social and environmental issues simultaneously through opening investment opportunities, offering advisory services, and gender-based guidance. Responsible funding boosts economic development in the whole region, facilitates women to earn income, and improves living conditions.

We work with impact investors, social entrepreneurs, and change makers to recognise and address gender-based issues during the investment process. With expertise in responsible capital and effective Gender Lens Investing, our team develops strategies to ensure a stronger female future, which will become the catalyst for meaningful sustainable change.
